BabaGabra Reviews: Quentin's The Eurasian Restaurant

Writer: Roy CheongRoy Cheong

Apa khabair, guys! Baba Gabra sini—ada pernah makan laok orang Serani tak?

Have you ever tried Eurasian food? There used to be a TV show called “The Skinny Chef” on Mediacorp, and guess what? That chef, Quentin Pereira, has opened his own restaurant at the Eurasian Association called Quentin’s The Eurasian Restaurant, located at 139 Ceylon Rd, Level 1 Eurasian Heritage Gallery, Singapore 429744.

Babas & Eurasians: Like Family!

The Babas and Eurasians are like siblings. Even though our adat (customs) aren’t exactly the same, we share so many budaya (cultural influences) with each other. When it comes to food, there’s definitely a lot of rasa sayang (love) between our cuisines!

The Dishes We Tried: A Eurasian Feast

  • Curry Debal: Ah, this dish needs no introduction—“toksah kai-siau lah!” It’s also known as Devil’s Curry because it’s “betol pedair lah!” Made with chicken, sio bak (roast pork), and kobis (cabbage), it has a fiery kick and deep flavors.

  • Bostador: Usually cooked with prawns, but we tried the fish version. The kuah (gravy) was “chukop lemak sekali!”—rich, creamy, and so comforting.

  • Vindaloo & Feng: We also had the pork stew Vindaloo and beef stew Feng. Both were packed with spices and full of warmth—“betol boleh kasi kenyang perot!”

  • Patchri: This brinjal (eggplant) dish was “chukop lembut sama pedair sekali”—soft, spicy, and just bursting with flavor.

The Vibe: Like Dining in Portugal

The restaurant feels like you’ve been transported to a cozy “restaurant kat Portugal”. The decor has old-world charm, and if you’re lucky, you might even catch a live band performance. The mix of Eurasian hospitality and Portuguese ambiance really makes this place special.

And that’s not all! There’s a Eurasian Heritage Gallery upstairs where you can learn more about Eurasian history and culture. It’s a perfect blend of makan (eating) and belajar (learning)!
